I
wish to pursue a career in physical therapy because I really enjoy helping
people overcome injuries. There are many
ways to go with this occupation, and being outside of an office setting is
something I have enjoyed immensely.
Knowing that you can help someone walk again, or use some part of their
body that they had not in a long time is very gratifying. I love to see the determination on people’s
faces as they try to overcome obstacles that they may have had for months, or
even years.

When I was a junior in high school, I broke my ankle three weeks before basketball season started. I set a goal for myself that I would play when we reached the halfway point of the season. The day I got my hard cast off I went to physical therapy. I had no idea what kind of occupation I wanted to go into in college and that was the first time I thought about a major in physical therapy. As I continued physical therapy, I began to pay attention to the different exercises I was doing to increase the strength, flexibility, and coordination in my leg. When the season reached the halfway point, I was able to play in the game. I would not have been able to do this if it had not been for my physical therapist. Physical therapists not only make you physically stronger, but they do mentally as well. You constantly have a person at your side telling you, you can succeed. Without the help I had, I do not think I would have played in that game that day.
Ever
since that experience I have wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy or
athletic training. It has been an
ongoing battle with me to decide which one I want to do. With a lot of thought about both fields, I
have decided that Husson will teach me the information and skills I need to
know to succeed in either one of these professions.
